Once upon a time when Los Gatos was only a train stop between San Jose and Santa Cruz and those who lived here preferred the quiet rural life or were unable to afford the more desirable locations in San Jose, land was cheap. Times have changed.
The real estate market may be imploding, and housing prices may be plummeting, but little Los Gatos remains a destination location in Silicon Valley, and a million dollars still won’t buy a detached single family house. A million dollars serves as the general price point in this community, dividing condos and townhouses from single family homes.
For just under a million dollars, at $975,000, a lovely three bedroom, three bath townhouse was sold in the desirable Courtside development. With those 2122 spare feet of living space, the buyer also received a designer kitchen, an attached two-car garage, limited parking, and access to three swimming pools. Very comfortable surroundings in a location very close to major freeways, gourmet grocers, and world recognized hospitals. www.acmadison.com
Once over the million dollar price point, between $1.3M-$1.9M, Los Gatos offers some charming homes. Most homes features three to four bedroom and two to three baths, but they will have land, some with the large lots and old growth trees. These homes will usually be situated miles from the popular downtown district. If you want to be able to walk to local restaurants, be prepared to call yourself a multi-millionaire.
